"Courage is like love, it must have hope for nourishment."
— Napoleon Bonaparte

Marc David Sarkady

Marc David Sarkady leads a global consulting firm committed to developing effective leaders who can make the institutions of the world work. Mr. Sarkady has pursued this goal for over thirty years. Sarkady engages the leaders of corporations, governments, and non-profit and non-governmental organizations to define vision and strategy, develop values and culture, and coach leaders and teams to effect change. Key to the firm's success is the dynamic integration of high performance standards that deliver measurable and sustainable results while incorporating shared human values.

Mr. Sarkady and his colleagues actively engage clients in a process that connects the vision and strategy of the institution with the interests of individuals, creating an alignment and partnership of vision, strategy, leadership, values, and culture. In particular, CEOs and other leaders partner with Mr. Sarkady because he understands the challenge of enabling organizations to deliver on their missions and how to help their leaders guide the process of change and performance.

Mr. Sarkady has led multi-year change efforts with the following clients:

General Motors
United States Navy
Berkshire Group
Textron
Harvard Program on Negotiation
British Airways
Chase Manhattan Bank
Donna Karan International
Calvert Group of Funds
20th Century Fox
Fannie Mae Foundation
Federal City Council
General Public Utilities
Walker and Dunlop
Green Park Financial
United Telecom of Ohio

In 1982, Mr. Sarkady co-founded the Calvert Social Investment Fund. He is a pioneer in developing the field of socially responsible investments based on the criteria of achieving environmental security, protecting human rights and labor standards, eliminating racism, and other important issues confronting our emerging global society. He also has been a consultant and facilitator to the Social Venture Network, socially responsible American businesses that founded Business for Social Responsibility. Mr. Sarkady's work also includes consulting environmental groups and labor unions to assist their effectiveness, fostering constructive dialogues between these groups and his corporate clients.

In the area of international mediation, Mr. Sarkady assisted the U.S.-Soviet Arms Control Process team from 1983 to 1987 responsible for the agreement Presidents Gorbachev and Reagan signed to improve the Hot Line between Washington, D.C. and Moscow. In the 1990's he assisted the Middle East Peace Process, facilitating sessions between representatives from ten countries regarding security, economic development, prevention of torture, and the development of civil society.

In June 2002, Mr. Sarkady was named Special Advisor to the United Nations Global Compact. The Global Compact, launched by Secretary General Kofi Annan in July 2000, is a value-based platform designed to promote institutional learning. The Global Compact employs the power of transparency and dialogue to identify and disseminate sound business practices based on universal principles. The Global Compact provides for voluntary initiatives, a complementary framework that encourages eventual convergence around nine universal principles. The nine principles identify specific practices in the domains of human rights, labor, and the environment. Mr. Sarkady helped found the Advisory Council, which is the governing body of the Global Compact.
